As a part of a recent project at Tan In the City, I wanted to lighten an all black interior by creating a gold feature wall where the lash extension bay would be. In my mind it would be a beacon of light and luxury!!
Still.......I was nervous and did a lot of online research to find the best method and the most fabulous results. I was met with hilarious DIY walls with craft glitter aplenty!! Everyone seemed quite chuffed with their results... happy enough to post videos and celebrate the effort. Personally I was now filled with fear... Next stop was my favourite Resene paint branch, where I could get real advise from the professionals. Sadly I only heard personal stories from experienced painters of gold walls gone bad.
And still .... I had to have this wall!!!! I ended up deciding on a metallic paint at Resene called Gold Dust. It seemed the lightest brightest sparkliest option! Using a gravity fed spray gun the first coat went on well.... it was looking great so I tried the old paintbrush and roller methods just to test them out. Both still worked really well.
I think the key was that the wall was textured so the light bounces around on the undulations but in saying that, the flat surfaces of the window frame were fantastic also. Maybe its just a great product... or could it just be that Im good at gold?!
